Born in Italy in the 14th century
Ballo was enjoyed as entertainment for the nobility at court.
It was eventually introduced to France in the 16th century, where full-fledged ballet was born and was beloved by Louis XIV, known as the Sun King. Until the late 17th century, ballet was originally performed by men from the royal and aristocratic families.
